Temporarily repairing a tent pole using a repair sleeve
Your tent pole can fail due to a heavy storm, a clumsy move or an accident when setting up your tent. You can of course buy a new set of tent poles or replace the broken part, but that won't be of much use while camping. Fortunately, many tents come with a repair sleeve as standard. We explain how to assemble it in a few steps.

Preparation
To be able to work on the tube calmly, it is useful to loosen the tension on the elastic that holds the pole parts together. This can be done very simply by placing a loop in the elastic and inserting a pin through it.
In case you have purchased a piece of pipe, you can cut it to length with a pipe cutter or hacksaw. The piece of repair pipe must be at least 10 centimeters to provide sufficient strength. Longer is of course also possible.
The intention is to slide the piece of repair tube over the broken or broken pole part. However, there is a chance that where the tube is broken or broken, the pole part is no longer nicely round. The repair piece will then not fit properly. You can solve this by making the pipe slightly round again with needle nose or round nose pliers. This does not have to be perfect, as long as the repair piece fits over it.
Don't have any pliers available? Then try to round the tube again with gentle taps of a hammer. Don't hit too hard, because you may flatten or break the tube and it will be difficult to get it back into the right shape.
Now you can easily slide the piece of repair pipe over the broken part. To prevent the repair tube from shifting, secure it with a piece of tape. Remove the pin to release the elastic and you are done with your repair.
